Courage Collectives focus on the Pillars of Support—the organizations and institutions in society that can provide the administration with the power they need to implement policies and wield control.
Pressure Pillars to Protect our Freedoms.
There aren’t a set number of pillars, but they include Business, Labor, Faith Institutions, Education, Civil Service, and Military/Police. These pillars are made up of different people with different identities, motivations, and interests.
When Pillars of Support cooperate with justice, transparency, and accountability, they strengthen democracy and defend our freedoms.
When they comply blindly with abuse of power or authoritarian pressures, they enable authoritarianism.
Courage Collectives unite people inside the Pillars of Support to refuse cooperation with authoritarian power and move our institutions to defend democracy.
How it works:
Gather people who share your pillar identity (teachers, union members, faith congregation members, etc.)
Map your leverage (associations, employers, boards, etc.)
Pick a target
Run noncooperation actions
Where to start.
We are planning town halls focused on each Pillar of Support. More info to come. We will be looking for leaders of each pillar who can organize the collective around using their identity to influence the institutions and people within their pillar to stand up to Trump and refuse to go along with his power grab.
